Nortonline is a commercial importing company of telecommunication equipment. It is the main supplier of telecommunication store chains for Greece and Cyprus. Its activities are focused on wholesales, therefore with the help of Netmechanics an electronic trading system was developed.
The system's purpose is to achieve for its customers faster ordering, instant updates on prices and products, secure transactions, as well as minimization of its operating costs.
Nortonline daily serves hundreds of companies supplying them with its products. With a client list that exceeds one thousand businesses throughout the world, the company tries to keep every day high quality services. To accomplish this, the company should regularly inform its customers about the variety of products offered as well as their current values. And all this should be accomplished without increasing the operating costs.
So a solution was sought which would have a clean procedure regarding the operation and handling by staff. With the help of this solution, the inform of the customers about the range of products, the availability and of course the price would be carried out, easily and in real time.
At the same time Nortonline customers had also modern information systems and demanded by the supplier to be automatically provided with the required information, even when the physical store is closed, and in a form that is editable from their systems and it could be associated with their ERP.
Based on the general needs of the company, Nortonline had purchased an ERP system which contains all the information about their products (photos, descriptions, availability, compatibility of products, etc.). However, this information was trapped in the narrow context of the internal IT. Therefore, a way should be found for the information to be "externalized", ie be accessible by third parties.
The Azure Solution
Netmechanics, being equipped with modern tools provided by Microsoft, designed and developed a system that solves the problem above. Firstly, Nortonline purchased a new server running Small Business 2011 and Premium Addon.
With this way, the basis for sharing information was created, having resolved issues of internal reporting and organization, using solutions such as Exchange 2010, SharePoint 2010 and the new Web Outlook Access.
The database of the ERP is now running on SQL Server 2008 R2 without any difficulties.
Having in mind the demand of the company's customers, the latest cloud solution of Microsoft was chosen, known as Windows Azure. Combining five Azure services, a highly reliable solution was created which consisted of the following services:
- Blob Storage
- Content Delivery Network Service
- Hosted Services
Through the above Azure cloud services and with the contribution of Netmechanics, Nortonline managed to:
• Provide photographs of products, directly available, to the final customers.
• Have a database with information about the products (codes, titles, descriptions, prices, availability etc.) which combined with the DataSync service made possible to synchronize the data in SQL Server company every five minutes!
• Have installed the Information Service (WebService) and serve their customers 24 hours a day with the information updated in real time.
